The scientists of our classroom will be participating in an on-going field study this school year. Over the course of the year, we will examine local fauna’s seasonal use of various habitat-types around Gastineau Community School. Through the use of trail cameras and student observation, we will try to determine what species of wildlife are using the areas around our school, whether seasonal change affects such use, and the role human impact may have. Eventually, it is my hope that student scientists will also be able to develop their own projects of scientific inquiry… Stay tuned!
We will be visiting our trail cameras throughout the school year, collecting any images obtained by our trail cameras and gathering data based on student observations. Be sure to check back from time to time, as we will try to update our own "Gastineau Trail Camera Gallery" after each of our quarterly field surveys. In the meantime, check out the trail camera images captured by biologists across the state in similar projects of their own!
